While my science illustrations aim to explain phenomena and provide answers, I also create art that explores ideas and raises questions. My artwork addresses themes stemming from my background, including materiality, memory, alterity, and organic processes. I forage for inspiration in books, anthropological theory, and the observation of plants and wildlife. I incorporate detailed rendering, looser spontaneous mark making, and contrasting scales into my work. With the subtle power of intricate graphite drawings and watercolor paintings, I aim to jolt the viewer out of their daily preoccupations, to create a space for them to pause, notice, and question. Familiar objects, textures, plants, and animals are arranged into new forms that present the viewer with alternatives to the taken-for-granted or overlooked.
